Make This Your New Year’s Resolution

Every year, as the first hours of January roll by, new year’s resolutions and ‘new year, new me’ are gently shoved in our direction. Perhaps we’re the ones making these resolutions; a fresh page to begin the rest of our journey. But this year, I feel different. This year, I’ve found myself thinking ‘wait, what about the year behind me? Am I expected to wake up on January 1st and feel like I’ve been born again?’

So this year, no resolutions; just reflection.

Because truthfully, it’s the same person – just a different year. The same person but with another 365 days of learning and growth under your belt, lessons which have shaped you, strengthened you and made you better. An upgraded version, if you will.

So this year, no resolutions; just reflection.

Unearthed more of my own individual style..

2018 is the year I faced fears. Visited Bangladesh for the first time in fifteen years, met new family, spoke at a public event and moved house. Oh, and faced England’s gut-wrenching yet expected downfall in the World Cup. And lived to tell the tale. Except I never want to speak about it ever again.

On the art front; consistently created and experimented with art, unearthed more of my own individual style, learnt to leather bind books, ordered and sold the first ever prints of my work, embossed individual copies with gold, managed to balance the social media game, worked with individual client requests, and learnt to create art in a small and confined space.

Let’s celebrate the old triumphs..

I know you’ve worked hard too in the last year, and no matter how different your list looks to mine, let’s celebrate the old triumphs and work hard towards the new.

You’ve got this. We’ve got this.

Happy new year!
